Each LevelUp Countries card is split into three layers of information. The six trump stats are what you compete with — pick your strongest and challenge your opponents. The rest of the card is rich context that children absorb simply by holding and reading it.

Trump stats — used to play (compare & compete)

These fields aren't used to win rounds — they're the details children notice, remember, and talk about. The pronunciation guides make greetings and currencies feel real and speakable, not just text on a card.

Every card has a map. Every map tells a story.

The centre of each LevelUp Countries card features an illustrated map of the country, placing key information geographically. Children don't just read facts — they see where things are. This is what makes LevelUp Countries unlike any other geography card game for kids.

💡

Fun trivia and famous personalities.

The bottom of every card carries two more sections — memorable trivia facts and notable personalities from different fields. These are the parts children read aloud to each other during the game, which makes the information stick.

💡 Fun trivia — example from Finland

🌞
Santa's Home: In summers, the sun stays up all night in the far north of Finland — the home of the magical Midnight Sun, and where Santa Claus lives!

Each card has 1–2 memorable trivia facts chosen to be surprising, shareable, and age-appropriate for children aged 6 to 10.

What children learn from LevelUp Countries

LevelUp Countries is built on the insight that children retain facts best when they have a reason to care about them. Wanting to win a round is reason enough. Learning happens as a side effect of competition.

01 · Geography
Where countries are in the world
The illustrated map on each card builds a genuine mental geography — not just names and capitals, but where countries sit relative to their neighbours.
02 · Numbers
Real-world data and scale
Comparing GDP, population, and elevation across countries builds number sense and an intuitive understanding of global scale — naturally, through play.
03 · Culture
Languages, currencies and greetings
The pronunciation guides make foreign words accessible and fun to say aloud. Children leave each game knowing how to say hello in several languages.
04 · Knowledge
Landmarks, food, animals and people
The map and personality sections fill in a rich picture of each country that goes far beyond what any school atlas or quiz card provides.

How to play LevelUp Countries

LevelUp Countries uses the classic trump-top card game format. It takes about 5 minutes to explain and 20–40 minutes to play a full game. No board, no screen, no setup.

1

Deal the cards

Shuffle the deck and deal all country cards equally between players. Each player holds their pile face-down — they can only see the top card at any time.

2

Pick your strongest stat

The active player looks at their top card and picks one of the six trump stats — Population, Area, GDP, Max Elevation, Happiness Ranking, or UNESCO Heritage Sites — where they think their country scores highest.

3

All players reveal and compare

Every player flips their top card. The chosen stat is compared across all cards. The highest value wins the round. The winning player takes all revealed cards and adds them to the bottom of their pile.

4

Win the deck

Play continues until one player holds all the cards. For a shorter game, play to a fixed number of rounds and count cards at the end. The player with the most cards wins.
